Pre-Operative Care

Preparing for Your Surgery

Leading up to your surgery date, one of our clinic staff will reach out to you. They’ll confirm your surgery date and arrival time, review your medical history and current medications, and provide you with pre-operative instructions.

Before your surgery, it’s important to inform your surgeon of any changes in your health, such as a cold or fever.

Please have a responsible friend, family member or other party who can accompany you to the surgery and drive you home afterward. For your safety, you won’t be permitted to leave alone or unattended. It’s advisable to have this person available during a flexible timeframe, as surgery and recovery times can vary.

Proper preparation helps ensure a smooth and safe surgical experience for you. If you have any questions, please reach out to clinic staff.

Basic Pre-Operative Instructions for Surgery

Before your surgery, it’s crucial to follow these guidelines. Your surgeon may provide you with additional instructions.

  • Do not shave or use a razor near the surgical site within 24 hours before surgery.
  • Wear comfortable clothing such as pull-on pants and a loose, button-down, or zippered top. Remove all jewelry, makeup, lipstick, lotions, nail polish, and contact lenses.
  • Do not use tobacco or smoke.
  • Allocate at least a full day for recovery and avoid scheduling any appointments on the day of your surgery.

  • Post-Surgery Effects: It’s normal to experience discomfort around the surgical site. You may also feel drowsy or dizzy, depending on the type of anesthesia used.
  • Discharge: When you are ready to leave, your Recovery Nurse will contact the person who will pick you up. You will be escorted to their vehicle in a wheelchair.
  • Post-Operative Care: Before you leave, you will receive Post-Op instructions from your doctor.

Post-Surgery Care at Home

Once you’re home after surgery, follow these guidelines:

  • Surgeon’s Instructions: Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions for home care. If you encounter any issues, please contact your surgeon directly.
  • First 24 Hours: Avoid strenuous activities, alcohol consumption, driving, or making significant decisions during the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Follow-up Call: A nurse from The San Francisco Rejuvenation Center will contact you within 3-5 days to assess your home recovery.
